Empowering faculty research at MIIT

MIIT was created as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries, Myanmar and India. India, through the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B), is implementing the MIIT Project at Mandalay, Myanmar since 2015. The support for MIIT comes in various forms – IT infrastructure, labs, curriculum design, teaching, faculty development, capacity building, etc.

In the coming year, one of the focus areas of support is going to be faculty research. The Faculty Research Programme will be supported partly by the MIIT Project of the Government of India through the MIIT Faculty Development Initiatives of IIIT-B.

All Myanmar faculty members of MIIT are invited to formally apply for support under this initiative by submitting a research proposal

Key Points

A few important things to keep in mind:

  • Any Myanmar faculty of MIIT can submit a research proposal
  • Such a faculty member can be the Principal Investigator of only one research project
  • Faculty members can, however, participate in multiple research projects as co-investigators
  • Myanmar faculty members of MIIT are free to include Indian faculty members in their research proposal as Joint Principal Investigators
  • Collaborations between Myanmar and Indian faculty members are strongly encouraged
  • It shall be the responsibility of the Myanmar faculty members to approach the faculty from India for such a collaboration
  • Research proposals can be in any area, not necessarily constrained by the academic area of qualification of the faculty. For instance, a faculty member specialising in Mathematics area may submit a research proposal in some other area of interest, such as data analytics or artificial intelligence.
  • All such proposals will be considered based on their intrinsic merits
  • The budgetary requirements for research proposals must be reasonable and reflect the must-have requirements of the research
  • Travel support, if any, included in the budget would apply to only one person in the team and not for every member of the team. This is towards travel to complete the research work, and not for presentation in a conference.
Support for travel to attend a conference will be decided on a case-by-case basis upon the completion of the research work that results in a paper

Please use the template included below for writing your research proposals. All faculty members are requested to email their proposals to Prof. Subramanian latest by Friday, May 4, 2018.

Evaluation of Proposals

All research proposals will be evaluated by a team of researchers from IIIT-B. Shortlisted proposals may require a few Skype interactions with the IIIT-B team. Faculty members whose proposals are accepted will be informed through an email no later than Monday, June 11, 2018.

In case of any questions, please feel free to meet with Prof. Subramanian. He will be available in his office till April 6, 2018, after which he will be leaving for India. For any kind of support during the break, he will be available on email/Skype.

We hope that all the faculty members will participate enthusiastically in this programme and work towards creating a vibrant research community at MIIT.
