Sayar Gadaw Pwe (Homage Paying Ceremony) 2018

Myanmar is a country where teachers are greatly respected and revered. In fact, in Myanmar society, one’s teacher is accorded the highest reverence, together with the Buddha, the Dhamma, the Sangha, and one’s parents.

Every year, during the month of Thadingyut, homage paying ceremonies for teachers are held all over the country by former and present students. During such ceremonies, students affirm their love and respect for their teachers and often honour them with gifts.

On September 28, the students of MIIT organised a lovely ceremony for their teachers. The entire affair was completely managed by students, with Daw Moe Moe Win, Registrar, MIIT playing only a supervisory role. Following speeches by Dr. K. R. V. Subramanian, Director, MIIT and Dr. Win Aye, Rector, MIIT, the students paid homage to their teachers through a prayer, and showered them their love, gratitude, and, yes, a few gifts. All the faculty members from both India and Myanmar were in attendance.

The ceremony was followed by distribution of awards for academic excellence during Academic Year 2016-17. Students were also felicitated for their achievements in various extra-curricular activities – such as sports, essay-writing, and debate – at regional, national, and international competitions.

Students had a lot of fun when the awards were distributed.
