BE
B.E. (Hons.) in Electronics & Communications Engineering
The B.E. (Hons.) programme in Electronics & Communications Engineering offers a strong foundation in the hard sciences (physics, chemistry, and mathematics) and the engineering sciences. The programme has several courses that cover all the necessary fundamentals in electronics that are required to work with electronic devices & systems, embedded systems, and communications systems. These courses combine classroom and hands-on lab experiences, including, but not limited to, such topics as digital electronics, technical communication, electronic circuit design, microprocessors, signal processing, and networking technologies.

Salient Features

  • Based on the general student input level from the matriculation school system in Myanmar, the bachelor’s degree is for a duration of 5 years.
  • Bachelor’s degree programmes at MIIT follow the semester system, with courses having specific credits.
  • Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters of about 16 weeks and a special term of 4 weeks.
  • The academic year in MIIT starts with I Semester in the month of December in a given year. This is consistent with all the other universities in Myanmar.
  • I Semester in a specific academic year is followed by Special Term, which is then followed by II Semester.
  • Special Term is primarily used to offer courses from liberal studies, humanities, and social sciences, as well as scope for some independent, short-term, laboratory work.
  • The degree programmes are broad-based in the sense that the courses in the first four semesters of both the disciplines – CSE and ECE – are common and lay a strong foundation in mathematics, sciences, engineering sciences, technical arts, and English language communication.
  • Even allowing for the additional credits that a student will be enrolling for in a typical programme of 5 years, students at MIIT are required to do about 215-220 credits in an undergraduate programme. Students enrolled in these degree programmes will typically be doing far more credits than their counterparts in other universities.
  • Thus, to acknowledge the breadth and depth of the curriculum, as well as the significantly more credits required to graduate, MIIT offers the “Honours” degree for all its students.
  • MIIT emphasises outcome-based education and all courses are designed and conducted to be outcome-based.
  • MIIT also attaches significant importance to university-industry linkages. The courses conducted over the various semesters are designed based on inputs from the industry. The Capstone Project, undertaken towards the end of the programme, is a structured course that can be done by the students in a specific company or a research lab.
